2015 f150 IWE. My IWE would make a grinding noise intermittently. The dealership said they was bad and replaced them. When I got the truck back it was making a humming noise that wasn't there before. The noise went away if I put it in 4 hi took it back and they said the new IWE was bad so replaced it again but that didn't fix the humming noise.

IWE noises are only evident while in motion, as would any other rotational noises that are common such as differential bearings. Groaning noises are usually associated with a bad bearing, generally speaking, a wheel bearing. I have replaced the IWE actuator this past weekend, the check valve and solenoid.Turns out it's an IWE issue. The 4x4 wants to engage for a moment and you get metal on metal. There's a TSB on it. They did the work under warranty and replaced the check valves. Do a search on YouTube under F150 IWE noise and you'll find some surprising similarities lol. Anyway, I left it at the dealer for about 2 hours and I was good to go.
