IMR4198 is my "go to" .45-70 powder. I don't use anything else. However, in the Huntsman,I use two fifty gr. Triple Seven pellets under a sabot with a 250 gr. XTP, and I can regulate the .45-70 to hit the same POI as the Huntsman. That cuts out a little second guessing.

If you load it to little you cause a high pressure problem, if you load it to much you cause a high pressure problem. Hodgdon does not even list a load with it.
