After tiered spells gets unlocked, there's a lot of offline time just to tier up those spells. There's also building up time with neutral factions for a couple research upgrades that it is beneficial to use offline time for. After mercenary research there's even a 15 day of mercenary time research to unlock. That's what I'm using offline time for.
