The decision might be an easy one to make as decent accommodation at reasonable prcie at this late stage will be extremely scarce. Having said that, you cannot go wrong with any island. Mljet is the prettiest though IMO.

Hard to give specific recommendations based on liking history alone as there are lots of options, Split is probably the easiest base as it is the hub for the southern Islands.
