You don't need to remove those hoses to remove the camshaft cover. It's just annoying. It only really pertains if you have a lot of oil in you intake/charge pipe.

Replace with a 5/8 hose. Cut the hose and install a check valve that allows sure to flow to manifold. Also putting all the pressure on crankcase with blow seals out as well as it could affect oil pressure readings as well. Start there and see what happens.
