I, myself, shoot a Mossberg Model 500 for dove hunting (some skeet and trap, too). I've put well over 1,000 rounds through it and it seems to work fine. The other pros I can think of with the Mossberg is that it has a bayonet lug and larger tube capacity. Tim, Remington's website shows exactly 1/2 lb. difference between the two - that's actually quite a bit, in my opinion, just for the occasional 3-1/2" capability. Used 870's are definitely the way to go. There's very little that can be "wrong" with a pump shotgun and only a slim chance that you'd get a dud.

My opinion is the Benelli Montefeltro is better,,,,,,,but only slightly. If I were in your shoes though I would get the Tristar Viper G2 20 ga. instead of the Mossberg.
