Not sure how it will work in 45/70 but found BD works well in 30/40 and 30/06 using max load of UNIQUE as a starting load, and starting load of 2400 as max. My Sharps likes boolits seated to touch the lands (2.95" LOA). 25-28 grains of 5744 should get you in the 1200-1300fps range. Just have to find the node for your rifle.

If you load it to little you cause a high pressure problem, if you load it to much you cause a high pressure problem. Hodgdon does not even list a load with it.
