After I reassembled it, with all new gaskets of course, I checked the compression before adjusting the valve clearance just to make sure things were sealing properly. I got 140-150-155 for readings, a lot better than the 60-105-75 ...

Also I put a new seat on it last year and did not use the long stud that goes down into lift cover.Lift worked ok .but I never moved draft lever. Also there is a cam follower pin (dowel) that gets badly worn from riding on a cam for many years. Replace it. If the cam is badly worn, build it up with weld and grind it back to near original. You could try rigging a turnbuckle wired to the running board support and the draft lever and "tune" it to see if the draft will work temporarilly. As JMOR says, you are compressing springs as shown in the picture. Selecting Position control moves the pin onto the cam as in the picture. There is little lubrication in the area of the cam and pin so the pin wears when you use Position control and if you constantly use Position rather than Draft, the pin has a limited life.Move the lift arms back from the extreme lower position approximately 1/2 inch when measured at the pin hole in the lift arm. Lock the lift shaft in this position by tightening the retaining cap screws on one end of the lift shaft until the position of the lift shaft will be maintained.
