The transmission has never been touched. Had another 4020 that also had a power shift with a front end loader. We used this 4020 to clean out our poultry houses and load the litter with.My problem is spark plug fowling. Just the slightest too much fuel(as in rapid acceleration)and the plugs fowl. Jun 21, 2009. #1. Hello, I have a 1967 John Deere 4020. About a month ago, I decided that I would fix the fuel gauge on it. I bought a new sensor from AI Products and I bought a new gauge from them also. When I installed them, the gauge would show about 3/4 full whether it was empty or full.

I am currently experiencing problems starting my john deere 4020 (1969 12v). When starting, the starter motor sprocket does not grab the starter ring properly causing the engine to not go around and start. The starter ring was replaced six months ago by the previous owner. Good News....the original brake valve was rebuildable. It solved the entire problem and it stops great. No more wheel lock up. The JD 4020 is now ready to go back to work. When this tractor was evening used daily we never had any trouble with the steering. Now that it only gets used very little we have steering trouble. Is this problem in the steering column or would it be in the pump?

Remove the screw, install a plastic line on the fitting and start the tractor. Turn the steering wheel to the RH stop position and open the fitting slowly. Let oil bleed out the line until no bubbles are present then tighten the fitting. Be careful as the steering wheel may jump after the bubbles are gone.
