Description: Rare, early S. Newhouse # 5 Slickpan bear trap, all original, never taken apart or messed with. This trap was made between 1855-1858 before Newhouse stamped the pans on their bear traps. It has very strong, stamped, forged springs, and the early riveted on teeth, brazed with brass from the factory, 34.5" long.
In 1886, The Oneida Community, Ltd. introduced a less expensive line of traps, known as the Victor. By the early 1900's, 2 in every 3 traps across the globe came from the Oneida factory.
