Train cars are new and comfortable and you can reserve seats. Top is a lookout station (you can also drive a car up).

What I will point out is we were 2nd in line and able to sit in the very front seat on the way up.Both are fairly different, but equaly amazing. While on the Cog you get more of a bird's eye view, as the Peak is the highest point around, by far. On the Durango -Silverton you're more "in" the mountains, versus on the top. You also go along a scenic river for at least part of the journey. There is a narrow gauge partially cog railway from Brig (from Geneva you get on at Visp now) to Zermatt and another from the village up to Gornergrat. The one from Brig is the continuing track from the Glacier Express. Because it is narrow gauge you have to change from the mainline trains.
