TLDR; Yes absolutely play it. Two things: If you get it, get the previous game also and play that first. WOTR is better for sure but Kingmaker is worth playing and better if you play first to get into the setting. Combat is similar to BG3 but the style and story are so different that it won't feel like a retread.

Other than that, Through the Ashes occurs during the very early part of the main campaign on the timeline, and Lord of Nothing happens as your main campaign character is going though Acts 2 - 5. Completing Through the Ashes does give you an item reward in the main campaign that you pick up early on. And Lord of Nothing opens a new dungeon in Act 5.
