I ended up harvesting a pretty decent half rack mule deer during Idaho's general season. This year will be my first solo hunt, and I would like to hunt Washington's unit 186 during modern firearms. I am trying to scout out areas to hunt on my 3 day trip to eastern WA in April and I hear alot of people say Colville National Forest. I have been looking and the national forest is all over the place. Is it better to hunt the Colville National Forest in GMU 101 or GMU 111 or GMU 108.

Black Tails are tough, especially big bucks. Read, listen, spend time and you will eventually score. Try to get in a bit further than other guys, don’t discount clear cuts in the 4-7 year range, there are a lot of deer in them. Good tip from above, find the old growth on fringes and hunt it slow.
