It’s a common misconception that working as an airline pilot is the last step and ultimate goal in a pilot’s career. There are tons of other different (flying) roles for pilots in the industry. ATP is just one among them. Personally, I’d never work for an airline, unless it’s one of those airlines that treat people like people.
Times have changed. Upgrading to captain doesn't have the same grandeur to a pilot as it once did. This isn't the 1950s anymore. There was a time where the captain was the king of the aircraft.
